The Fluval U series internal filter foam, supplied by 123 Aquatics forms part of the 3 Stage filtration which makes Fluval Aquarium filters so effective at keeping the fish tank clean and preventing cloudy water.
This filter foam is part of the stage 1 filter media and removes large and floating debris before the water passes into the poly/carbon filter cartridges where biological fish tank filtration occurs. Without the wool pad as a pre filter the floating debris could end up in the fluval carbon cartridge which would impair its effectiveness.
